Family Matter…it really does!!! Family helps to shape our thoughts, belief systems and prepare us for our journey in this life.
In the world of work, some people delay having a family of their own for one reason or another…not the right job, job doesn’t pay enough, not enough time put in, maybe it’s slightly embarrassing because “everyone will know what you did 9 months ago”….what ever the reason may be. No one can ever say when is the right time to have a child as they are blessings but they are also huge responsibilities. BUT, I would say a couple of things (1) You can play the lotto and become a millionaire at 70 but even with the best of science I’m not sure that it’s a great idea to have a child at 70. (2) If you’re going to feel embarrassed about starting a family then don’t…most people already know how they are made and there’s nothing to be ashamed about. (3) If you’re worried about your job or loosing your job…what happens if they fire you when you’re just past your prime so you end up with no job and no family? You may feel like you have to work overtime and so you have no time for children but can’t you change? When it comes to family you need to make a decision for yourself and no one else.
The reality is that life is uncertain and no one knows what will happen next. Both Jobs and Family are important. A Family keeps a person grounded and a job typically supports a family…heck there are actually Family Businesses out there proving that the two go together, so there’s no real reason to question whether you should have a family when it comes to jobs and your career. Sometimes I think it’s a little sad when I read other articles online of persons deciding not to have children because their job is demanding or doesn’t pay enough and while they are legitimate concerns I do honestly feel like there are solutions if you look for them.
To those of you trying for a family, good luck to all of you. Juggling a career and family can be hard work but it can be done. To those of you already established in your careers, remember that empathy to young families goes a long way and makes you look a whole lot better in the eyes of a lot of people.
